Oktoberfest Trail Ride
Oktoberfest Trail Ride – September 29th & 30th (Dufferin County Forest Main Tract)
A distance riding competition (hosted by the Ontario Competitive Trail Association) consisting of a 50 mile endurance ride, a 6 mile ride and tie (involving teams of one horse and two riders) and set speed races of 25 and 12 miles).
Events will take place on Saturday and Sunday with horses leaving early in the morning and returning to the camp for vetting/judging and ending around 5pm.
These races test the horses stamina and speed and the determination of the rider to complete the distance with a horse that is judged “fit to continue”, by veterinarians and experienced horse people.
Special events & activities:
- Saturday – 1pm: 12 mile set speed race starts
- Saturday – 4pm: 6 & 12 mile ride and tie starts
- Sunday – 7:30 am: 50 mile endurance ride starts
- Sunday – 8am: 25 mile set speed ride starts
- Sunday – 11am: 12 mile set speed ride starts
Competitors (horse and rider) will return to the ride camp at intervals during the day and visitors can see the crews at work, cooling the horse and preparing them for vetting.
Children are allowed, as are dogs on leashes. However there is no food for sale and children must be supervised at all times as there will be excited horses that may not be familiar with children, and who may kick or bite.
OCTRA ambassadors will show guests around the pulsing and vetting area,and guests can view the camping arrangements at their leisure.
