Beth is now making beads for Sassafras!
A chance visit to the Sassafras studio last Thanksgiving resulted in a wonderful collaboration with Bob and Victoria Kirk.
I fell in love with their jewellery the minute I first saw it at Dragonfly and later in several other places. When I finally realized that I passed by their studio in Shallow Lake every Thanksgiving on my way to Sauble Falls Provincial Park I decided to stop in last fall. Both Bob and Victoria were in their studio so I introduced myself and did some shopping. When I went to pay for the jewellery and fused glass tree ornaments I had collected up Victoria asked me if I would pay with beads. Well, I was more than surprized and when I told her I didn’t have any to show her she assured me that she had seen my work at Dragonfly and would be happy with whatever I sent her. Bob showed me the size of bead they wanted and when I got back to my studio I set to work making 10 beads in 5 different colours, chosen to complement their favourite colour combinations.
I bundled them up and sent them off from my trusty local post office, regular mail. You can probably see where this is going….over two weeks later they finally arrived, the day before the Kirks were leaving for a three week working holiday to the US to visit some of their favourite glass manufacturers. Much to my surprize, they chose four of my beads to base their spring line on and bought sheets of glass to coordinate with them. And then Victoria told me what kind of beads she wanted…large discs and rings! Too make a long story short, what I thought would be a huge challenge ended up being relatively easy and now our jewellery is making it’s way across Canada!
An excellent selection of Sassafras jewellery is now on display in the Beads on Broadway studio at Dragonfly Arts on Broadway. Drop in and tell us which one is your favourite!
