1. Dufferin County Museum & Archives

Pictured above is a women’s Salvation Army bonnet (ca 1940) worn by Orangeville resident Elsie Prior, who attended and supported the Orangeville Salvation Army Church. With the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939, Ottawa gave the Salvation Army official status as a Canadian War Auxiliary Service. The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary was especially important in the homefront war efforts. This group was in charge of organizing and sending packages of comforts overseas. As well as looking in on the families of Canadians away on active service. This artifact is currently on display for the DCMA 2015 main exhibit, “If the Walls Could Talk.”
