Heritage Caledon
Heritage Caledon is the Town of Caledon’s volunteer municipal heritage committee. Established in 1976, Heritage Caledon’s principal mandate is to advise and assist the municipality on such matters as the designation, alteration or demolition of heritage properties under the Ontario Heritage Act. Other activities include the promotion of heritage awareness and initiatives within the community, and providing advice to heritage property owners on appropriate restoration and maintenance practices. Heritage Caledon consists of a maximum of 25 members appointed by Council, including a minimum of two Councillors and the Town’s Heritage Resource Officer. Members are selected on the basis of their demonstrated interest, knowledge and expertise in heritage matters, with representation sought from the local historical societies and all geographic areas of the Town. All members are regarded as private citizens and do not represent any agency or firm in their capacity as a member of Heritage Caledon. Starting in 2004, members will be appointed to Heritage Caledon for one, two, or three year terms with a maximum continuous tenure of nine years. Heritage Caledon meets the second Tuesday of each month, with meeting locations alternating between the Town of Caledon offices and local heritage venues. The public is welcome to attend.
