Grand Valley Midwives

Grand Valley Midwives provides high-quality maternity care services to women in Grand Valley and surrounding areas. Midwives are regulated health care professionals who provide primary care services, and refer to physicians if any complications develop. Midwifery services are fully funded by the Ministry of Health, and midwives care for women throughout pregnancy, labour and birth, and for the new mother and baby during the first six weeks postpartum. Midwives attend births at home and in hospital, and can order all routine lab tests and ultrasounds. Each client is cared for by a team of 2-3 midwives and a midwife is available 24/7 by pager for any urgent questions or concerns. Clients can attend prenatal visits at our clinic, or midwives will visit them at home if they don’t have transportation. After the birth, all women receive visits in home or hospital during the first week. We encourage women to be active decision-makers in their care, and our visits last 30-45 minutes so there is plenty of time for questions and discussion.
