Family Transition Place

Family Transition Place is working to raise respect in relationships and eliminate violence in the community.  We do that by providing shelter and counselling to abused women and their children as well as through skill-building education for youth, women and men to help them build healthy relationships.

In 2006-2007, we touched the lives of more than 9,500 people who found safety, support and hope through Family Transition Place’s counselling, shelter, second stage housing, legal/transitional support and crisis line. More than half those served – 5,300 – were Grade 5 to 12 students who took part in educational violence prevention programs, learning skills to help them build healthy, equal relationships.

Family Transition Place believes that by challenging the attitudes that allow violence to be tolerated and giving people the skills they need to build and maintain healthy respectful relationships, we can help make respect the norm, not the exception, in our homes, schools and community.

We rely on community involvement in responding to and preventing violence against woman. By working with the media, businesses, community groups as well as police and other victim serving agencies we can educate neighbours, friends and families about the warning signs of abuse and give our community information about supporting survivors and preventing abuse and violence.
