Breedon’s Maple Syrup
We are a modern maple syrup operation that is open to the public for tours and demonstrations on how sap is collected and made into pure maple syrup – a great canadian tradition. We tap a total of 2500 maple trees and use mainline, about 17 miles worth through the bush to collect the sap that will be boiled down to make maple syrup. We also have some buckets and a kettle to demonstrate the pioneer way as compared to more modern methods being used today by most syrup producers. We use an oil fired evaporator, reverse osmosis and a filterpress in our modern operation.
Maple Syrup Season
Syrup season usually starts in March when ideal temperatures occur. In order for sap to flow the temperature should be around -5C at night and +5C through the daytime. The syrup season will usually last an average of about 3 weeks each year. After this the buds begin to come out and sap collection is complete for the season. It takes 40 L of sap to make 1L of maple syrup.
We package the syrup in both plastic and glass bottles in various sizes ranging from 100ml – 10L. We also sell maple leaf candies (maple sugar), lollipops, maple butter, candles, and toffee on snow (weather permitting).
