The 9th Annual Orangeville Blues and Jazz Festival is Almost Here!!

The Orangeville Blues and Jazz Festival is the place to be June 2 - 5, 2011
It’s almost that time of year again…

Now entering its 9th consecutive year, the Orangeville Blues and Jazz Festival has established a well-earned reputation as “the place to be in the first weekend in June” and has recently been recognized as one of Ontario’s Top 100 Festivals by Festivals and Events Ontario.

In 2010, this award-winning Festival attracted over 30,000 visitors to The Hills of Headwaters region. For 2011 it will offer an expanded program of events that will include something for everyone. The sections below will guide you through this year’s highlights.

This spectacular event would not be possible without the generosity of its many sponsors or the tireless efforts and countless hours logged by its army of volunteers. And this year’s Festival is guaranteed to be the best yet!

2Win a cruise at the 2011 Orangeville Blues and Jazz Festival

TWO Contests Offering INCREDIBLE Prizes

It’s a given that the 2011 Orangeville Blues and Jazz Festival will offer exceptional entertainment, events and food throughout the Festival weekend.

However, this year is extra special due to the fact that there are TWO contests offering incredible prizes.

You can WIN a 7-night/8-day Caribbean Cruise from Celebrity Cruise Lines – including return airfare from Toronto’s Pearson International Airport. This prize is valued at $4,000 and tickets are $10 each, or $25 for three.

The winning ticket will be drawn at 3:00 p.m. on June 5th at the Festival’s Main Stage at Alexandra Park. CLICK HERE for cruise details and info on where to get tickets.

You are also invited to enter for a chance to WIN one of Two Blues and Jazz Festival Weekend Getaways for Two. EACH prize is valued at $1,000, and includes: overnight accommodation, meals, passes to the Saturday evening concert at Broadway Garden, and a number of other great inclusions. In other words, everything you need to enjoy the Festival in style and comfort.

Thursday, June 2nd – Opening Night Gala!

The 9th Orangeville Blues and Jazz Festival will officially kick-off on June 2nd at 6:30pm with the highly anticipated Opening Night Gala at the Best Western PLUS Orangeville Inn & Suites.

This year's gala will feature an impressive line-up of blues and jazz talents, including Ryan Grist, Leisa Way, Danny Marks and others.

This is a gated event and it is sure to sell out.

Tickets can be purchased in advance for $30 at BookLore in Orangeville or by calling the Festival Office at 1-888-792-5837 TOLL FREE.

Tickets can also be purchased at the door - if any remain - for $35.

Official opening ceremony starts at 10am, see you there!

Friday, June 3rd – Blues, Jazz and Classic Cars

Friday's festivities will begin with a full slate of entertainment at various venues throughout Orangeville and the surrounding area – including new Festival additions Hockley Valley Resort, The Deck Pub & Grill, The Edge Wine Bar & Grille and Fionn MacCools.

The Orangeville BIA will also be running a Blues and Jazz No Tax Sales Event at participating merchants.

Broadway Garden, the licensed open-air venue introduced in 2010, will open for business at 8:30pm when Trouble & Strife take the stage joined by renowned guitarist David Gogo. They will be followed by Canadian blues legend Paul James who will close out the program for the evening. $10 per person cover charge applies, and patrons must be 19 years or more to enter.

Also, back by popular demand is an expanded version of the Blues Cruise on Broadway classic car show. This year's event will start at 5:00pm and will feature over 300 cars and 12 bands playing live on the streets of downtown Orangeville. And, as always, this event is family-friendly and FREE.

Saturday, June 4th – Music, Motorcycles and Downchild Blues Band!

From 8:00am until 1:00pm on Saturday you are encouraged to visit Market on Broadway where hundreds gather each week to purchase and indulge in the many wonderful foods grown and produced throughout the Hills of Headwaters region. At 8:00am there will also be a FREE pancake breakfast courtesy of Investor’s Group.

During the Festival there will also be over 50 vendors selling a wide variety of products, including many new “international food” vendors.

Next door to the Festival vendors, at Alexandra Park, Re/Max – Discover Broadway Main Stage will offer its first day of FREE open-air concerts. Performances will begin at 12:10pm and will feature a tremendous line-up of local and internationally-renowned artists, including Heather Katz, Swamp Cabbage, The Johnny Max Bigger Band and Shakura S’aida, among others.

For those looking for a quieter scene, the TD Canada Trust Acoustic Tent will offer two days of performances by artists such as Michael Pickett, David Braid, Matt Brubeck and Mississippi blues man Sherman Lee Dillon.

Also starting at 12:00 Noon, Mill Street will be of interest to motorcycle buffs as the 2nd Annual Orangeville Blues & Bikes event kicks off.  This event has been expanded this year to include a Vintage Motorcycle Show (courtesy of the Canadian Vintage Motorcycle Group) and a “Show & Shine” event hosted by the Orangeville Chapter of the Canadian Motorcycle Cruisers in support of the Orangeville Coping Centre.

Throughout the day, venues throughout the area will feature live entertainment and, as if this wasn’t enough, starting at 8:15pm Broadway Garden will be the venue for a special concert featuring Sab & The Family Band the legendary Downchild Blues Band!!

Sunday, June 5th – Closing Party with Jerome Godboo

While June 5th is the final day of the 2011 Orangeville Blues and Jazz Festival, it too boasts a full schedule of events.

The day will again feature FREE open-air performances at the Re/Max – Discover Broadway Main Stage, featuring Amanda Martinez, JW Jones and Anthony Gomes.

The TD Canada Trust Acoustic Tent will also re-open and there will be many other events at various other locales.

Finally, there is no better way to wrap-up this year’s Festival than with an Official Closing Party at TJ’s Hangar ~ featuring Jerome Godboo. There is no admission charge and, in typical Festival fashion, you never know which headline performers will drop in to jam!
