ANNUAL CHRISTMAS CONCERT

Enjoy lively seasonal music in the Historic Corbetton Church on the Museum Grounds. Our guest performers are always local and the quality of their music will bring back memories of Christmas past. Ticket price includes admission to the Museum, Holiday Treasures show, and reception complete with yuletide goodies and hot cider. Call to purchase or reserve your tickets.

Cost: Tickets $10, includes sing along and laughter.


9TH ANNUAL HOLIDAY TREASURES

Find one-of-a-kind original creations for everyone on your list while you enjoy the atmosphere of the Dufferin Museum & Archives during the holiday Season.  Over 40 creative and highly skilled artists and artisans transform the main gallery into a seasonal show and sale of unique and handcrafted items, including blown glass, pottery, wood-turning and carving, wearable art, jewellery, stained glass, seasonal art, paintings, folk art, candles, bath products, hooked rugs and much more.

A special reduced admission rate of $3.00 to the Museum applies during this show. Opening night preview sale Nov. 23, 7-10p.m. RSVP to the Museum.

VETERANS DAY CELEBRATION – DUFFERIN’S WAR HORSES

Veterans Day Celebration – Dufferin’s War Horses

Saturday, November 10, 2pm

As well as human soldiers, animals played an important part in Canadian military history. The recent success of ‘War Horse’ has made us all aware of the casualties of war other than human. Curator Wayne Townsend will talk about the local horses that went to war and the local men who rode them and cared for them in conflict. A surprising and compelling research project unique to Dufferin County that is tied to a historical story that reaches all ages and backgrounds.

Cost: Tickets $10 or $5 for DCMA members


REGISTRATION OF DUFFERIN VETERANS

Registration of Dufferin Veterans  

Thursday, November 8 to Saturday, November 10, 10am to 3 pm

DCMA staff has worked hard on recording the history of over 5,000 Dufferin veterans who have served in 27 conflicts. But we need more. We will be on site to record any military information on you or your ancestors. Please come in to see what information we may already have. Add any personal information or stories. We will scan and return any personal mementos that you may have. If you are a veteran, we will have someone on site to take your picture for the database, so wear your medals.


DUFFERIN ANIMAL TALES

Dufferin Animal Tales   

Saturday, November 3, 2pm

Join Archivist Steve Brown, and Curator Wayne Townsend, and guests as they spin tales about the animals of Dufferin County. Gathered from old newspaper articles and diaries, these stories will entertain you as well as educate you on the interesting history of the area and the characters that lived in it.

Cost: Tickets $10 or $5 for DCMA members.


NATIVES AND ANIMALS

Natives and Animals   

Saturday, October 27, 10am and 2pm

Our talented education co-ordinator will delight her audience with stories of wild animals from Ontario native culture. A special exhibit of native artifacts found locally will educate our audience on native activity in the area prior to first contact with Europeans.

Cost: Tickets $10 or $5 for DCMA members


DUFFERIN CIRCLE OF STORYTELLERS

Dufferin Circle of Storytellers  

Friday, October 26, 7pm

Join our regular storytelling group for a special ‘Evening Bestiary’ in the intimate surroundings of Historic Corbetton Church. These talented storytellers have brought together a collection of animal stories that teach us not only about four legged creatures but a bit about humans as well. Refreshments and friendly conversation follow in the Museum. 

Tickets $10, available at BookLore in Orangeville, Jelly Craft Café in Shelburne, The Curiosity House in Creemore, and the Dufferin County Museum. 


SPECIAL FUNDRAISING PERFORMANCE BY DINAH CHRISTIE

Special Fundraising Performance by Dinah Christie

Saturday, October 27, 7pm

Join us for a special performance by Dinah Christie, a DCMA supporter. Dinah has been involved in theatre for decades as actor, dancer, singer, writer, director and designer. For some, this special program will bring back memories. Limited number of tickets. Pre-registration required. Don’t be disappointed, book your tickets early.

Annual Student Art Show Awards Ceremony

Sunday, June 17 @ 2pm 

In partnership with Headwater Arts, DCMA is proud to host this annual show and sale of original art works, featuring the very best from local and area high schools. Join us as we recognize the talents of our youth through the Russel, Mappin, Headwaters Arts and Best School Art Program of the Year Awards, along with the DCMA's People's Choice Award, as voted by you, the public. 

Come out and support our youth and the arts.

Cost: Everyone welcome. Free admission all day.

Darrell, Steve or Wayne will walk you through the new exhibit, introduce you to DuffStuff, (our new research tool), and take you behind the scenes where "stuff" gets cleaned, catalogued, and stored.

These lads can be entertaining and each has a wealth of stories about the DCMA and their collective 55 years working at the museum. Coffee served before the tours.

MAY IS MUSEUM MONTH!

May is Museum Month - Free day

Monday, May 21, 10am to 4pm

To celebrate museums in Ontario as well as to celebrate the first long weekend of the year, we are offering a day of free admission to the DCMA. A great way to get to know your community museum....free!! 

All four floors of the museum will be ready for you and your family to explore and enjoy. Staff and volunteers will be on site with demonstrations and special activities.

Cost: Free event as a thank you to all.

Erin District High School, Erin, Humberview District High School, Bolton, Banting Memorial High School, Alliston, Centre Dufferin District High School, Shelburne and Robert F. Hall, Catholic Secondary School, Caledon. 

Regular Museum Hours: Tues to Sat 10am to 5pm, Sun noon to 5pm

2ND ANNUAL MARCH BREAK MAPLE SYRUP FESTIVAL

Join us during March Break at the Dufferin County Museum & Archives  where starting at 10 am each day from Tuesday, March 13 to Sunday, March 18 participants will learn the art of tapping a tree, gathering sap, boiling sap into syrup, and finally tasting the wonderful flavour of real maple syrup. Our costumed staff and volunteers continue the program inside where you will learn about the history of maple syrup and the native peoples and hear local stories of 'sugaring off' in Dufferin county. For the event, the staff will mount an exhibition of antique maple syrup and sugar artifacts such as sugar molds, tapping equipment, pressed glass syrup pitchers and much more. This collection is one of the best in Ontario and it only comes out for one month a year.

Cost $5 per participant, pre booking not necessary. Open and appropriate for all ages, geared for those with a sweet tooth. Everyone guaranteed to go home smelling like wood smoke and sugar.

BEAUTY IN THE BEAST – ANIMALS AS OBJECTS AND ART

Beauty in the Beast – Animals as Objects and Art

Sunday, April 1

“Pet Friendly” Exhibit Opening April 1, 1:00 to 4:00pm

The first “animal themed” event will be the official opening of the exhibit “Beauty in the Beast – Animals as Objects and Art”. Be sure to mark April Fools Day – April 1st, 2012 - on your calendar and plan to get here for the afternoon from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.  Visitors will get a taste of what they can expect all year long and listen to the staff talk briefly about the joys and sorrows of working with over 1,500 animal objects and pieces of art. 

Bring your pet!   Bring your favourite pet to the DCMA on our opening day, and take part in a fun and free flowing “show & tell” session.  Let’s see how many different sizes, shapes and types of animals we can admire and celebrate at the Museum that day!

14TH ANNUAL CORN FLOWER FESTIVAL

14th Annual Corn Flower Festival 

Sunday, June 3, 10am

W J Hughes Corn Flower enthusiasts and collectors gather together for our annual event that celebrates not only a great Dufferin success story but also celebrates the DCMA Corn Flower collection. The day provides an opportunity to share your stories and collections as well as meet with the owners of the Company, Pete and Lois (Hughes) Kayser. They share stories of running the operation from cutting to sales and also personal reminiscences of “Jack” Hughes himself. The day includes sharing sessions, guest speakers, a live auction and consignment sale of genuine W J Hughes Corn Flower. Lunch available.
